Back to Basics

A lot of the times people look into their closet and think “I have nothing to wear!” or “Nothing in here matches.” Sometimes this is just because nothing you’re looking at is who you want to be that day and that’s perfectly fine, we all have those days. Most of the time it’s because although you might have tons of clothes, you might be missing basic wardrobe essentials! While it’s important to stay true to your style and buy statement pieces that you adore, it’s also important to always have timeless pieces in your wardrobe that will go with anything and can be dressed up or dressed down. Here are some of my closet essentials that I wouldn’t be able to live without!

1. White Tee

Probably the most classic piece you can own! The best way to pick the perfect white tee is to look for one that’s not so tight and has an almost lived-in look. I also think a v-neck adds a bit to a simple piece and can also be spiced up with a long necklace!

2. Skinny Jeans

Every girl has their perfect pair of jeans, and those jeans are very important! When looking for a timeless pair of skinnies, I’d recommend a traditional blue wash that will match almost anything! The higher the waistline, the slimmer and longer your legs will look as well!

3. Black Heels

I really don’t think this needs much of an explanation other than, they’re sophisticated, sexy, and go with just about every outfit. Having a reliable pair of black heels is super important!

4. White Button Down

I own so many different white button downs but they all have their own feel yah know? A white button down is such a classic and adds such a crisp look to any casual or classy outfit! It’s also a great layering piece,

5. Pencil Skirt

These are very sleek and complimentary. The pencil skirt is no longer something one just wears in an office but can be also brought out to be used when you’re out and about!

6. Leather Jackets

I don’t think these will ever go out of style. If anything they just get better and better! You can wear leather jackets all year long, and I promise you that once you have one in your possession, you’ll be living in it.

7. Nude Flats

Whether you’re wearing a menswear inspired outfit, or a pretty little sundress, nude flats are always there to come to your rescue when you’re just not feeling heels.

8. Ankle Boot

Booties have been very trendy lately, but they are also a timeless piece that can be paired with just about any outfit. The are countless versions, styles, and colors that will match anyone’s preference!

9. Black Blazer

Blazers can add a little bit of spice to any outfit and give it a classy look. You can even pair it with your skinnies, white tee, and black heels (see what I did there) and you’re ready to go!

10. Slip On Sneakers

My favorite as of lately have been leather slip on Vans! For those comfier days, these are definitely the type of shoes that can be brought to just about any look.

11. Striped Shirt

Think of all the classy looks that can be created with a striped shirt, along with all the casual looks that can be paired with some slouchy jeans? Insane, You can mix stripes with just about any solid or print, like how can you really live without a striped shirt? I really don’t even want to discuss how many I probably own.

12. Classic Black Pants

I feel like every girl needs a pair of these that make her feel like a boss ass b*tch. The style and hem is completely up to you, and can be worn with a plain t-shirt on a lazy Sunday, or dressed up with a silky blouse and some pumps on a day out!

13. A Little Black Dress

This is literally the perfect clean slate to accessorize and do whatever you want with, or just simply wear it on its own. I can not tell you how many sticky situations a LBD has gotten me out of. It’s just a must!

xoxo, Caroline
